Configuration

To configure the extension, follow the instructions described in the official documentation. Then, fill in the Merchant Account ID using the following instructions:

Sign up, or Log in to the PayPal console
Select Sandbox or Live mode
Go to My Apps & Credentials → REST API apps, now select your application or create a new one
From Profile tab copy the Account ID
In Magento 2 admin, go to Stores → Configuration → Sales → Payment Methods → Recommended Solutions → PayPal Express Checkout → Required PayPal Settings
Set Enable In-Context Checkout Experience to Yes
Set Merchant Account ID to Account ID that we copied from Profile tab

* Paypal often changes their UI and they move the configurations around, so it's recommended to always check for latest instructions

For Live mode:

To obtain the Merchant ID

1. Login to your PayPal account
2. Click the Settings icon on the top right
3. Select Account Settings
4. On the left column, under Business Profile click Business Information
5. The PayPal Merchant ID should display

Debugging

For debugging, use the Sandbox credentials from PayPal.

Development

This PayPal Express module uses Magento 2 PayPal GraphQL module as a dependency, specifically createPaypalExpressToken GraphQl mutation for creating a token. Other actions are

handled by custom resolvers, which use the original Magento 2 PayPal module’s logic from its Blocks and Controllers.

The implementation utilizes the PayPal Smart Payment Buttons to display a payment method.
